Well here we are again and I am glad to report my reading challenge is going well and most importantly I am enjoying it. I have read sixteen out of the twenty I have to read, before I can buy any more books.
Fiction
Happiness by Aminatta Forna
Overall I enjoyed this novel and it’s themes around community, trust and survival.
Red Clocks by Leni Zumas
I struggled with this one, but thought the themes were bold and interesting.
Scarlet by Genevieve Cogman
This is just what I needed. Historical fiction with a strong element of fantasy. Loved it!
Haven by Emma Donoghue
I really enjoyed this story about three monks that set out to live a strict religious life on an isolated island.
Non Fiction
My Name Is Why by Lemn Sissay
An incredibly moving telling of one mans discovery to find the identity stolen from him when he entered the British care system.
The Prison Teacher by Mim Skinner
If you are interested in non fiction books about the Prison system in England then this is a good start. Not earth shattering, or hard hitting, but a sensitive telling of working in a female prison.
Manifesto – On Never Giving Up by Bernardine Evaristo
A remarkable book by a remarkable writer!
Now off to read even more remarkable books from my bookshelf.
